Rebuilding Center: Salvage Showdown 2020!

The ReBuilding Center envisions a world in which reuse is normal and accessible for all, fostering a circular economy of reuse and repair where homeowners and renters can repair their own homes while reducing waste. In celebration of our community and its love for reuse, the ReBuilding Center has partnered with Sustainable Building Week to host the Salvage Showdown!

The Salvage Showdown is a friendly competition to showcase creative reuse. Eight wonderful members of the reuse community have volunteered their time and creative energy to build the most interesting/beautiful/creative/weird piece of furniture using only a limited amount of reclaimed materials from the ReBuilding Center. Anything (really, anything) is possible!

You can follow along with the progress of the builders on the Salvage Showdown website. Team Mayest found an assortment of reclaimed wood to transform into a sculptural table. They have spent the past two weeks completing glue-ups and sanding! Here is a sneak peek of their progress:

Finished items will be on display in all their glory from October 17-22 at the ReBuilding Center and posted online, where customers and supporters will vote for the winning salvage creation and purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the finished pieces. On October 22, the ReBuilding Center will host a live Zoom event where all pieces will be raffled off to eight lucky winners, and the winning creation will be revealed! Click here for more info about how to attend: Salvage Showdown. The winning team will receive The Scrappy, a custom, trophy hand-built by ReBuilding Center staff.

In recognizing the value of community partnerships, ReBuilding Center will donate 50% of the raffle proceeds to our friends at Constructing Hope to support their mission and participants!

A huge thank you to the 2020 Salvage Showdown Sponsors, including: Green Hammer, Neil Kelly, Beneficial State Bank, Columbia Bank, CSNW Benefits, JD Fulwiler & Co. Insurance, Mayest Design, and Safety Northwest.
