Sustainable Building Monthly

August 12, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us every month to learn about sustainable building practices and connect with like-minded individuals in the industry!

Join us for “How Buildings Can Play Nice with Clean Energy in the Electricity Sector,” featuring Amanda D. Smith, Ph.D. Amanda will discuss the critical interplay between implementing climate solutions in the buildings and electricity sectors and how this synergy can significantly influence decarbonization efforts.

In this session, you will discover four actionable strategies that practitioners in the buildings sector can employ to support building electrification and the decarbonization of the electricity sector. Amanda will also provide an in-depth look at the sources of electricity in Oregon and Washington and the implications of varying electricity usage patterns.

Furthermore, Amanda will share recent research findings that highlight how specific energy efficiency measures and retrofit decisions can impact the electricity grid. This presentation is a must-attend for anyone interested in understanding the vital connection between buildings and clean energy.

Amanda D. Smith, Ph.D., is a distinguished researcher, energy analyst, and educator, currently serving as the Senior Scientist for the Built Environment at Project Drawdown. With extensive experience in quantifying the relationships between energy use in buildings, weather and climate, energy costs, and emissions, Amanda has made significant contributions to the field. Her diverse career spans academic, national laboratory, and industry positions, including roles as a mechanical engineering professor at the University of Utah, a researcher and team leader at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and a senior energy analyst at SOCOTEC USA.
