AIA PDX COTE Green Champions Summit

October 8, 2018, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm $10

1.5 HSW

This premier event is an evening of learning, discussing, and connecting the dots in our journey to reducing the increasing effects of new construction on our global climate. Every material we use has an environmental footprint defined not only by its source, but by its journey through transportation, manufacturing, installation, and end of life handling. Explore with us how material choices relate to a range of measurable environmental impacts from embodied energy to habitat destruction through all stages of the project, and to see exciting examples of how Life Cycle Analysis can be utilized to inform design decisions.

Join us for this prelude to the Portland Sustainable Building Week for presentations and case studies from the beginning of the materials cycle to the end.

Learning objectives:
1. Identify the complex relations among learning new tools and conventional practice with regards to LCA

2. Explore LCA design strategy success and failures through the use of case studies

3. Identify the theoretical principles behind the local, state, and national sourcing of materials

4. Develop effective strategies for integrating life-cycle analysis into the design process

Presenters:
Stacy Smedley, LEED BD+C, Living Future Accredited, Director of Sustainability, Skanska USA Building
Vinn Mason, Bureau for Planning & Sustainability
Jordan Palmeri, Oregon DEQ
Terry Campbell, NW Sustainable Wood
Jacob Dunn, ZGF
