Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) In the Sustainable Building Industry

The ZERO Coalition is proud to present a training focused on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in the sustainable building industry for the fourth annual Sustainable Building Week (SBW) – an event-filled week from a cross-section of Portland’s design professional organizations.

In this training, we will build on our training from last year with a refresher for new attendees that will cover basic definitions and JEDI concepts, uncovering implicit biases, and actions to implement immediate change.

We will then take a deeper look at issues in our region such as gentrification, displacement, environmental issues, and the needs of local communities. Participants will leave empowered with resources to advance this work and an understanding of how to own personal responsibility and impact.

Bora Architecture & Interiors and Andersen Construction, in partnership with Self Enhancement Inc. (SEI) and Portland Community College, will share a special guest presentation, “Building An Equitable Future: Workforce Housing + Generational Wealth for Young Black Professionals.” They are working together to create a home for young Black professionals in Portland interested in a career in the AEC industry—a place where they can live together in community to support one another.

We have discounted ticket prices for several networks, like ZERO Coalition members, professionals who have completed the Sustainable Homes Professional course, Community Energy Project’s network, members of Shift Zero, and more.

We do not want ticket prices to be a barrier to entry so we have a limited number of tickets that will be reserved for participants who are experiencing financial hardship. Ticket revenue will compensate trainers and be reinvested in our equity-centered work and future events.
